In 1996 Canadian, Maria Rocco and Italian, Lucia Mingarelli put their heads and their hearts together to create what has become the leading children’s language school in Florence.

Maria went to university in her hometown Toronto where she earned her first Degree in French and Italian Languages and a second Degree in Education.  After years of working camps and teaching in Canada, she brought her experience and creativity to Italy.

Lucia went to university in Rome where she graduated with a Degree in Pharmacy.
After years of operating the family business, she hung up her lab coat forever.

Canadian Island was born to provide a place for young children to learn English as a second language in a fun and natural way.

Philosophy
At Canadian Island we believe that a child learns best in a relaxed and accepting atmosphere where fun is the medium through which English skills are developed. Through music, art, language and laughter, children tell us who they are.
